Comic 82: An atom is quite empty! To scale.
| An atom is quite empty! | ||
| Make a proton just big enough to see | ||
| the size of one pixel at 0.3mm across | ||
| at this scale the hydrogen atom would be 30 metres diameter | ||
| and so the electron might be 15 metres away... | ||
| Proton | ||
| ...the electron might be here | ||
| at this scale it would still only be 300nm across and you will probably need an electron microscope to see it. | ||
| That's quite empty. | ||
| But empty is not the same thing as nothing. | ||
